Job Title: Applications Scientist
Hybrid role available in: Houston, TX And Boston, MA
The successful Applications scientist has worked with analytical instruments in product development, product management, applications, technical and/or sales support roles and preferably has worked in life science or with life science end users to develop an understanding of our customer's needs. The individual is enthusiastic, highly motivated and able to quickly change direction as needed. The Applications scientist will be responsible for managing suppliers, customer relationships, and supporting sales. While continually looking for partnership and technology opportunities to develop strategy, expand the offering, and grow the business. This position, working at a fast paced startup, is ideal for a self motivated individual looking for a challenge, a lot of flexibility, responsibility, autonomy and is willing and able to pitch in where they are needed.
What you will get to do:
APPLICATIONS AND CUSTOMER SUCCESS - Ensure customers are satisfied with the product through proactive communication, assistance with applications, joint publications, conference presentations, and ensuring technical issues are resolved. Will include remote calls and hands-on customer visits for field installation, startup, troubleshooting and training. Could require significant travel.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT- works with the engineering team to provide feedback on system performance, new development opportunities, encountered issues, participate in design reviews, support R&D and testing.
MANUFACTURING AND SUPPLY CHAIN - works with the factory to coordinate production and delivery of systems to customers.
PRODUCT STRATEGY - Assess competitive landscape and identify opportunities for technology and product development. Work with management to plan and execute strategy for the product line.
GROWTH - Support sales activities. Work with customers and internal technical team on applications. Customer calls, visits and demos. Work with marketing on strategy and promotion. This will include remote and onsite customer visits.

Facilitate interaction between business development, applications/technology and manufacturing groups
Support business development, sales and marketing efforts
Work with management and key stakeholders in setting technical and product strategy
Set and achieve targets for product performance and quarterly goals
Identify opportunities to upgrade product performance
Interface with customers on data mining, data sharing and optimization opportunities
Collect data from customers on feature requests to prioritize product improvements and technology roadmapping efforts
Implementation of new technology into product, working closely with technology team prototypes
Manage improvements and feature upgrades to software user interface, analysis software and data architecture optimization
Manage the creation of a system for maintaining and supervising field systems
Development of standardized quality metrics for customer release and expected customer use
Execute customer facing project management - delivery, communication, installation, training & startup (develop & maintain SOPs)
Ongoing customer relationship management and product satisfaction
Field service coordination and execution - creating processes and managing execution
Negotiate and enforce service & support agreements
Work with CEO to build technology and/or service partnerships
Work with business development on proposal through execution of field trials including applications engineering projects and product demos
Requirements
Minimum 5 years' work experience in analytical instrumentation in life science, applications engineer, applications scientist, analytical scientist, product manager, product development, project management, program management or similar related roles.
B.S., M.S. in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related scientific fields
Some experience either selling, supporting or working in the biopharmaceutical industry
Experience working with small teams and running multi-disciplinary projects
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal team members and customers, both verbally and in writing
Familiarity with laboratory environments
Extremely organized and diligent
Willing to travel up to 50% or more as needed, including internationally
Ability to interpret and analyze operational, financial and other types of data
Track record setting and achieving goals and performance metrics
Execution and value focused mindset

6+ years' work experience in hardware/software product management or related roles
M.S. and/or PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related scientific fields
MBA or equivalent experience/management training
Direct experience providing products or services to the biopharmaceutical industry,
Experience working in biotechnology laboratories
Some experience or general understanding of software development
Understanding or work with analytical instrumentation
Knowledge of experimental data analysis
